what to expect
We are glad that you are considering worshiping with us. As Christians, we gather to worship the Lord, learn practical life-lessons from His Word, and encourage one another. Sunday is a significant day of worship for us because it is the day Jesus was raised from the dead. That event gives eternal hope to all who follow Him!
What should you expect on Sunday?
We hope you would come into our building and immediately feel comfortable as you encounter a very friendly group of people. Greeters will welcome you at the front door and show you to our Welcome Center where you can learn more about Champions. We want to make your visit as comfortable and encouraging as possible.
Each Sunday you will notice several things:
Singing - You will notice that we sing without instruments. In unity, we lift our voices in praise to God as the Church in the New Testament did.
Prayers - We believe prayer to be very important. Those leading the congregation in prayer will lead our thoughts in praising and thanking God, asking for His forgiveness and seeking His help, guidance and encouragement for our members, our community, and the world.
Lord’s Supper - Every Sunday as Christians, we partake of the Lord’s Supper, or communion, in remembrance of our Lord’s sacrifice on the cross.
Preaching - We always offer a Bible-based sermon for the purpose of building up our faith, encouraging our spirits, and informing our minds so that we can all be better equipped to live out the Lord’s call for our lives in the world.
Offering - Every Sunday, we take up an offering to allow our members to contribute to the work of the church. We do not expect or ask for any of our visitors to give. We do not want you to feel any pressure. The work of the church is done by our members in their communities every day, but we take up an offering to fund our local ministries, foreign missions, benevolence, and our many other works of service for the glory of God.
In everything we do we strive to follow the guidance of the Lord through His Word.
How should I dress?
On any given Sunday, you’ll find people in suits, ties, khakis, jeans, skirts, or dresses.
While it would be impossible to share all our beliefs in this document, with no apologies we would refer you to the inspired Word of God. We want to be just as broad and as narrow as the Will of God as provided to us in His Word. While we learn from all of that Word, since Christ’s death, all men are under His will (Heb. 9:15-17). In that light, the following is a summary for your consideration.
Our beliefs are some that we as Christians in the church of Christ in Champions hold. However, this is not intended to be an exclusive list. The “short answer” could be given in a slogan that has been spoken in various ways throughout the centuries…we strive to “speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent.” Another slogan that speaks to our beliefs and effort is, “In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; and in all things love.”
