Take an Easy Way...
Sometimes, taking an “easy way” is not best. Sometimes, such a way takes us on a downward spiral and to the broad path leading to destruction. Sometimes, the easy way is just plain wrong.
On the other hand, sometimes, an “easy way” is legitimate. Sometimes, it is both good and appropriate. Sometimes, it will help us to get something done that we have been putting off for too long. That’s the kind of “easy way” to which I now refer.
On May 16, following a free dinner (hotdogs, sandwiches, etc.), we will hear Joe Brumfield, professor of Family Counseling at Harding University discuss the dangers of the Internet and how to avoid them. (This is one of the issues confronted in the movie that follows.) Following Brother Brumfield’s presentation, at 7 p.m., we will enjoy a free screening of the successful movie, Fireproof. This widely acclaimed film carries a message of renewal and hope for partners in marriage. It is a movie that can be enjoyed by all, regardless of how strong the marriage relationship is at the present. The next day promises to be even greater as Brother Brumfield will teach a combined class on The Passionate Pursuit for the Family and then preach on God’s Passionate Pursuit for Us!
So...take this “easy way.” Invite your friends, neighbors and others to come with you. What can be easier than inviting them to a free “dinner and a movie” with a great lesson by Joe Brumfield wedged in between. As they enjoy the activities of Saturday, you will have a natural “easy way” to invite them back on the following day! What about it...won’t you be active in promoting the great activities of our special weekend? Here’s your chance! Take an Easy Way!
FAMILY MATTERS...
“I will bless the Lord who has counseled me; indeed, my mind instructs me in the night.” (Psa. 16:7)
Together today, we bless and praise our Lord for all that He teaches and counsels us to do through His holy Word. Yet, even while celebrating the good, we also know that the “night” will come—the hard and difficult times of life. When those dark nights come, His counsel through His Word, helps get us through. What a God we worship!
Our hearts were touched by the sincere self-examination that Bryan Mize exhibited in his statement to the family on Sunday. What a blessing it is to know that the Lord provides forgiveness and strength as we repent of our ways and ask Him!
Tuesday night our TNT begins again! There will be things to do for Vacation Bible School as well as ways to serve in other ways. Come ready to eat at 6 p.m. After dinner, we will begin work about 6:30. We will finish with a short devotional at 7:55 and conclude the evening’s activities at 8:00.
Thursday is the National Day of Prayer. Pray for our nation. Pray for our leaders and the decisions made for our country. Let us pray!
Thanks to Charles Joachim for getting the parking lot painted for the teen’s basketball games. It looks really nice and will really make a difference on those “was it out or not” calls.
Parting Thought: Memory is a wonderful treasure chest for those who know how to pack it.
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK!
Jeremy's Junction
Typically, Aubri and I leave around Mother's Day each year and are gone for a little over a week. We get to see my mother for Mother’s Day, then we take a few days to travel to Hot Springs to celebrate our anniversary. We will celebrate seven great years of marriage on May 11. This year, however, we are returning a couple of days earlier as something wonderful is going to be happening at the Champions Church of Christ that EVERYONE should be making plans to attend.
May 16-17, we are having our Fireproof Seminar. Fireproof is a Christian-based film that deals with the themes of love and marriage. In addition to watching this film and discussing it, we will have talks regarding Internet safety and several other related topics Saturday evening. Sunday morning we will expand on the theme in combined Bible classes, our worship assembly, and discussion time.
Although I am very much looking forward to watching this movie and participating in these classes, the thing that I am most excited about is the man who is coming to deliver these important messages.
Joe Brumfield is one of the main Christian counseling professors at Harding University. I have had his course on the Christian Home and can confidently say that this seminar is going to be one of the best things we have ever done here at Champions. This is one of those events to which you should invite your friends and family because Joe has so much talent and experience addressing these often difficult issues. I cannot speak highly enough about Joe's love for Christ, knowledge of the Scriptures, and ability to share his knowledge in a loving and life-changing way.
Please, make every effort to be a part of our seminar. This will be a blessing to you and your family for years to come. Child care will be provided. See you there!
