FAMILY MATTERS...
We are always thankful for our visitors, but we are especially thankful for all those who have blessed us with their presence for our “Friend Day.” We hope that you will join in with us, not only in our study and worship, but also in our activities later at Spring Creek Park in Tomball. Reminder: There will be no evening services.
Last Sunday it was announced that Lacy Kasterdieck wanted to place her membership with us here at Champions and that her husband, Jeff, was studying. Wednesday evening, he became a Christian as he was baptized after a study with Marvin and Sue Trice. Also on Wednesday, Kayla Gustin was baptized by her grandfather, Wes Arnold. We are proud of Jeff and Kayla for their decision to put Christ on in baptism. Along with the angels in heaven, we rejoice!
Mike and Terri Gibson appeared on Great Day Houston with Debra Duncan last Tuesday. They were discussing Terri’s rare problem with imbalance that came (and stayed) after their cruise three years ago. If you missed the program, you can still view it on the web at greatdayhouston.com. We appreciate Mike and Terri for sharing their story. As was mentioned at the end of the program, perhaps others will find hope and help as well.
Remember to get with Wes Smith if you are interested in working on a mission VBS in Michigan in August this summer. It will be a great opportunity to grow closer to one of our mission congregations. Those going will be blessed!
Parting Thought: Progress involves risk. You can’t steal second and keep your foot on first.
HAVE A BLESSED WEEK!
Jeremy's Junction
This past week I went to Harding to a final interview with Ben Treme. We talked for over two hours about things he can expect this summer. I let him ask some questions and he talked about things he would like to try. Ben is a Harding Bible major who is looking to go into youth ministry. As a part of his preparation he will be doing a summer internship at Champions. He will learn more about counseling, how to preach and teach teen classes. He will also learn of ways to establish relationships with teens and others, as well as how to make lasting impact in their lives.
There is a lot of preparation that goes into being a youth minister. One of the best things you can do is give yourself the opportunity to learn in the field.
Preparation is also important in the life of a Christian. We need to prepare for the world and learn how to reach out to people. To keep ourselves strong there are things we can do to prepare. We can study our Bible and raise our spiritual IQ.
We can seek to have fellowship with other Christians. We can share with each other our joys and our burdens when we meet to worship God and find ways to serve Him. We can seek to chaperone teen trips geared to helping them grow spiritually and learning to stay strong despite this wicked generation. In all things we do, take advantage of the opportunities for you and those around you to prepare to meet God.
Please keep the youth program in your prayers and pray that we can help make Ben Treme into an amazing youth director. Any time you want to chaperone a trip, see Aubri and me. Thank you.

HUMOR FOR LEXOPHILES (Lovers of Words)
Back in June 2001 when I started writing these articles my idea was to explore the misuse of words and language. It’s been a while since we had an article along this line. Therefore, when I ran into these “Laughing Matters” compiled by Susan Capps, I just had to share them with you.
- I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me.
- Police were called to a day care center where a three-year old was resisting a rest.
- Did you hear about the guy whose whole left side was cut off? Now he’s all right.
- To write with a broken pencil is pointless.
- The short fortune teller who escaped from prison was a small medium at large.
- A thief who stole a calendar got twelve months.
- When the smog lifts in Los Angeles, U. C. L. A.
- The math professor went crazy with the blackboard. He did a number on it.
- The professor discovered that her theory of earthquakes was on shaky ground.
- The dead batteries were given out free of charge.
- A dentist and a manicurist fought tooth and nail.
- A bicycle can’t stand alone; it is two tired.
- A will is a dead giveaway.
- A backward poet writes inverse.
- A chicken crossing the road: poultry in motion.
- With her marriage she got a new name and a dress.
- A grenade fell onto a kitchen floor in France, and resulted in Linoleum blown apart.
- He broke into a song because he couldn’t find the key.
- A calendar’s days are numbered.
- A boiled egg is hard to beat.
- If you jump off a Paris bridge, you are in Seine.
- When she first saw strands of gray hair, she thought she’d dye.
- Bakers traded bread recipes on a knead to know basis.
- Acupuncture: A jab well done.
A CUP OF TEA FOR DADDY
When I was almost two years old, I had a little ‘tea set’ which was one of my favorite toys. I remember Daddy in the living room engrossed in the evening news when I brought him a little cup of ‘tea’ which was just water.
After several cups of tea and lots of praise for such yummy tea, my Mom came home. My Dad made her wait in the living room to watch me bring him a cup of tea, because it was ‘just the cutest thing!’ My Mom said, “Did it ever occur to you that the only place that baby can reach to get water is the toilet?”
And sure enough.
